Woods Bagot’s BHP Perth office fitout reimagines a vertical workplace as a series of connected communities, grounded in local context and cultural narrative. Spanning 40,000 square metres, the project is organised into six distinct “villages”, each aligned with the six Noongar seasons. This framework establishes a clear spatial rhythm that supports movement, collaboration, and a deeper sense of place.

A previously underutilised upper floor has been transformed into a vibrant, multifunctional hub. The Level 45 Sky Terrace plays a central role, offering expansive views that strengthen the workplace’s connection to the surrounding landscape while creating a shared destination for staff.
Biophilic design principles are embedded throughout the interior. Native Western Australian flora informs the palette of materials, textures, and tones, creating a layered environment that references country in a tactile and considered way. Developed in collaboration with Soft Earth and BHP’s Indigenous Engagement team, the design integrates the concepts of Boodja (country), Boorna (trees), and Wardan (water) as foundational elements within the spatial narrative.

Drawing on BHP’s operational sites across Western Australia, the design reflects the diversity and contrast of the region’s landscapes. These references are distilled into a contemporary workplace that balances cultural recognition with functional performance.
Sustainability underpins the project, with a strong emphasis on material reuse, locally sourced products, and environmentally responsive design strategies. These initiatives contribute to a 6 Star Green Star Interiors rating and a 5 Star NABERS Energy rating.
District contributed key furniture pieces to the project, including District x Adam Cornish Habitat Curve Booths, Simon James Isabella Chairs and Tangerine Stools, and Massproductions Draft Tables, supporting a cohesive and flexible workplace environment.
