Environmental Responsibility
For us, sustainability means caring for the environment and the wellbeing of our customers, staff, makers and community.
We work with brands at different stages of their sustainability journey, prioritising partners who design for durability and longevity.
We’re not perfect but strive for progress daily.
our footprint
-
carbon
The furniture industry is carbon and waste-intensive. In 2023 and 2025, we partnered with Pangolin Associates to assess our carbon footprint and build a decarbonisation roadmap, focusing on freight and electricity emissions. We'll continue these assessments every two years to track progress and refine our approach.
-
greenpower
Over the course of 2024 we transitioned to renewable power solutions, now proudly purchasing 100% GreenPower for showrooms nationally.
-
WASTE
As part of our commitment to improved waste management, we offer packaging take-back. Simply return your packaging to either our Perth or Melbourne warehouse, we work with local recyclers to responsibly process cardboard and soft plastics.
certifications
Certifications play a key role in our work, consistently guiding and motivating us to improve while also providing assurance to our customers. We are committed to advocating the importance of verification and promoting products that contribute to healthy indoor environments.
We partner with brands who manage products through eco-labeling programs such as Möbelfakta, Greenguard, Global GreenTag and Environmental Product Declarations.

geca
Explore productsGood Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) is Australia’s only independent, not-for-profit ecolabel, focused on reducing environmental impact and supporting ethical manufacturing.
Since 2016, District has maintained GECA certification through rigorous third-party assessments, with our manufacturing partners regularly audited to ensure continued compliance with GECA’s standards.
District offers a no-cost take-back program for GECA-certified products at end of life (excluding transport), managing them through approved recovery and recycling pathways.

PCF
Explore productsIn 2026, District launched its first product carbon footprint, for Moto Workstation. It measures the total greenhouse gas emissions generated across that product's life, from raw materials and manufacturing through to transport, use and disposal, based on the international standard ISO 14067.

We advocate for responsible, non-hazardous materials in the furniture we sell. Select brand partners hold Greenguard or Indoor Advantage Gold certification, verifying low chemical emissions and better indoor air quality.
