Hub Australia's newest co-working space at Brookfield Place demonstrates what can happen when workplace strategy, architecture and furniture design are considered together from the outset. Designed by Hassell and delivered in collaboration with Brookfield and District, One Two Five is built around a simple idea: flexibility should be designed in early.
Spanning four floors and more than 10,000 square metres within Tower One on St Georges Terrace, the workplace balances the needs of individuals, growing teams and enterprise organisations. The result is a highly adaptable environment that can evolve alongside its members while maintaining a consistent, design-led experience.
Scale and setting
One Two Five is Hub Australia's largest facility to date, accommodating 800 plus work points desks across private offices, suites and dedicated workspaces. The workplace also includes approximately 2,500 square metres of conferencing and event space for up to 300 guests, alongside a café, podcast suites, wellness rooms and a rooftop terrace.
The scale of the project reflects growing demand from Perth businesses seeking workplaces that can expand and contract with changing needs. For Hub Australia, creating that flexibility without compromising quality was central to the brief.
Designing for change
Unlike a traditional workplace, a co-working environment is rarely static. Teams grow, contract and relocate. Individual members become larger organisations. Spaces that work for one business today may need to support something entirely different tomorrow.
That constant change places unique demands on the furniture supporting the workplace. Hub needed a solution that could adapt over time, reducing disruption, extending product life and allowing spaces to evolve without requiring wholesale replacement.
A workstation designed to evolve
Elements Moto4 workstation became the foundation of the workplace, supporting more than 700 desks across open-plan work areas, offices and suites.
Designed around an expandable beam system, Moto4 allows the same platform to be reconfigured as workplace requirements change, helping future-proof the investment while simplifying ongoing management of the floor. Static workstations can also be upgraded to sit-stand through the addition of Linak actuators, providing further flexibility as expectations around workplace wellbeing continue to evolve.
Practicality was equally important. Accessible cable management supports ongoing IT maintenance, while replaceable components allow individual elements to be updated without replacing an entire workstation. Threaded inserts enable worktops to be exchanged as required, extending the life of the system and reducing unnecessary waste.
Spaces for connection
Beyond the workstation, a diverse mix of meeting, collaboration and breakout spaces supports different ways of working throughout the day.
Normann Copenhagen's Hyg Chair and Hyg Stool bring warmth to informal settings through their sculpted forms, lacquered oak bases and upholstered detailing. District's Victoria Chair was specified throughout multifunctional spaces, paired with matching trolleys that allow furniture to be quickly rearranged in response to events and changing occupancy requirements.
For lounge and collaborative environments, the District x Adam Cornish Habitat collection provides a softer, more residential layer to the workplace. Configured as booths, lounges and informal meeting settings, the modular furniture system helps create a variety of experiences across the floor while maintaining visual consistency.Â
A workplace beyond the desk
Informal work and retreat spaces are positioned throughout the workplace, offering members places to gather, focus or simply pause away from the desk.
Wood-panelled bench seating, built-in kitchen counters and flexible lounge settings create moments of respite around the floorplate. Fogia Bollo Armchairs anchor larger lounge settings, while Mattiazzi Clerici Upholstered Chairs provide comfortable seating within smaller nooks and quiet zones.
Together, these spaces create an experience that feels closer to hospitality than traditional workplace design, encouraging members to spend time, connect and make the space their own.
Flexibility by design
The value of flexibility extends beyond the workplace experience itself. Reconfigurable furniture reduces the need for replacement, lowers long-term operational costs and allows facilities teams to respond more efficiently to changing requirements.
At One Two Five, that flexibility is embedded within the workplace from the ground up.
Through early collaboration between Hub Australia, Hassell, Brookfield and District, One Two Five delivers more than a flexible workplace. It creates a framework that can evolve over time, supporting changing teams, new ways of working and a longer life for the furniture that underpins it.
