Named after the Danish word for cardboard, the panels of the Pap Bookcase are pressed from discarded milk cartons.

Pap is built from panels made of shredded milk cartons and other food packaging that would otherwise be headed for incineration. Tetsu Schokking designed the shelving to put that discarded material on display rather than hide it, so fragments of the original cartons stay visible in the finished panel.

The plastic coating in the cartons melts down and binds the material together, which means no chemicals are added in the process, and each panel comes out slightly different, with its own pattern and colour variation. Pap is a modular system, so shelves can be added or reconfigured as storage needs change.
