The Making of a Modern Classic - Burra

The Making of a Modern Classic - Burra

Burra began with a desire to design a chair that feels as soft as it looks—and looks as soft as it feels. Inspired by the indulgent character of its namesake, the design explores how volume, proportion, and upholstery can create comfort without visual heaviness.  Its rounded seat, enveloping backrest, and fluid transition into armrests form a sculptural whole that stands confidently on its own.

Rather than reducing the chair to its essential components, Burra embraces generosity. The proportions are intentionally plump, the upholstery full, and the lines continuous, creating a design that feels inviting from every angle. Comfort is not treated as a technical requirement alone, but as an emotional quality—something you sense before you sit down. The result is a chair that functions as both seating and focal point, equally suited to dining spaces and lounges.

Burra endures because of its recognizability. Once seen, it is hard to forget. Its form carries personality without excess, striking a balance between playfulness and elegance. In a market crowded with lounge and dining chairs, Burra distinguishes itself through a strong, memorable silhouette—one that feels contemporary today, yet grounded enough to remain relevant over time.
