Can Batlet

In the heart of Sóller, one of Mallorca’s most historic towns, a grand modernist townhouse has been restored with both reverence and curiosity. Designed by Durietz Design, Can Batlet is where the spirit of the past meets the ease of contemporary living - its high stuccoed ceilings, intricate tilework, and original carpentry now accompanied by furniture and lighting that feel naturally at home, including select pieces from New Works.

For Josephine and Christoffer of Durietz Design, every project begins with the building itself — with the feeling it gives as you first step inside. “The soul of the house is always the starting point,” they explain. “From there, the narrative is shaped by our current influences and the client’s needs.”

In Can Batlet, the soft, open form of the Coda Modular Sofa suited a living room accessible from all four sides. The slender walnut curves of the Bukowski Chair, a long-time favourite, brought a quiet sculptural elegance to the dining area, while the Tense Pendant completed the composition — “the icing on the cake,” as they describe it — in harmony with the chairs.

It is, they say, a “razor’s edge”: preserving history without holding it still. Their approach blends a Scandinavian sensibility with the textures and warm light of Mallorca, drawing on travels, natural materials, and historical architecture. In Can Batlet, that philosophy shapes a home rooted in its heritage yet open to new life — where past and present share the same calm, thoughtful language.
